Britannia Mortgages
Britannia traces its history back to early 1856. In the beginning it was named “Leek and Moorlands Permanent Benefit Building Society”, having about 204 members.
This Society evolved into today’s Britannia through several important mergers. The first one was developed in 1938 with the Longton Mutual Permanent Benefit Building Society and the next one with the NALGO Building Society in 1960.
After five years, a merger with Westbourne Park and with the Eastern Counties emerged as Britannia.
The last merger was on 21 January, 2009, with the Co-operative Banking Group.
